Jean Daneel Wines

Jean Daneel was educated at Elsenberg and in Germany. He followed these experiences working with and establishing several key estates including Buitenverwachting and Morgenhof. In the early 2000s he accomplished what many winemakers dream of he started his own operation. Today, working out of a tiny establishment in Napier in the Overberg region, he has established himself as one of the top winemakers in the country and has achieved international acclaim for his outstanding wines.

His son Jean-Pierre is working with him in the cellar and shows the potential to take on the mantle established by Jean.

Jean Daneel Signature Chenin Blanc (Reserve Wine)

The grapes for this wine were sourced from select parcels of old vines in the Stellenbosch and Perdeberg regions. Each area imparts distinctive components to the overall blend due to the marked differences in soil and climate. The wine is aged in barrel for 12 months with 20% new French oak.

Tones of lime, lemon skin, honeysuckle, baked apples, ripe pineapple and dried apricots predominate on the nose. The wine is rich and round on the palate with complex fruit notes and lively acidity on the long farewell.

This is a great accompaniment to seafoods, chicken dishes and cream-based pasta dishes.

The wine is ready to be enjoyed now but will develop complexity in the next two to three years. With good cellaring conditions this wine will age for up to ten years.

Jean Daneel Signature Red (Reserve Wine)

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. The grapes underwent two weeks of cold maceration after arrival at the cellar. Fermentation was conducted under controlled conditions for four weeks until dry and then racked off into small French oak barrels for ageing. The wine stayed in barrel for thirty-three months prior to bottling.

The wine shows distinct blackberry, plum and smoky coffee notes. Rich and firm on the palate, the wine shows lovely integration of fruit and wood with a firm tannic core.

The wine would be an outstanding accompaniment to red meat and cheese-based dishes.

The wine is ready to be enjoyed now but has the potential to age well beyond ten years given good cellar conditions.
