The picturesque 320Ha, Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI) Champion Farm nestles in a valley between the mountainous area close to Stanford and the Atlantic Ocean.
The terroir on the farm differs markedly and vineyard blocks are established to deliver a unique style of specific varietal. 14 wine cultivars are grown over 63ha. The westerly slopes are more suited to the Bordeaux cultivars Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon blanc and Semillon, while the easterly slopes favor the cultivation of Rhône cultivars such as Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Viognier.

From the outset, Hermanuspietersfontein have adhered to sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices in order to preserve and support the rich biodiversity of the area and conserve their ecosystems. The property’s unplanted slopes are covered in fynbos (native vegetation) and large tracts of land have been left in their pristine state. Great effort has gone into clearing the entire farm of invasive alien species. The farm is a haven for a variety of fauna, the most exciting being leopard, evidenced by spotted spoor.

Bartho Eskteen, the winemaker, was winemaker of the year in 2011. He is regarded as the Sauvignon Blanc king in South Africa.

Passion fruit, gooseberry, and ripe fig give this medium bodied sauvignon blanc nuances in flavor and taste that are important elements to the balance the tropical undertones of this crisp wine.

This wine is an ideal accompaniment to cream based pasta dishes, chicken with grilled vegetables, and light seafood dishes.

The wine is ready to drink but will develop complexity with an ageing potential of 3 years or longer.

Nr. 5 is a full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc with balanced wood integration which provides complexity, fresh acidity and rich consistency. Notes of apricot, gooseberry and coconut lead to the medium-bodied complex palate.

This wine is an ideal accompaniment cream based pasta dishes, chicken with grilled vegetables, and fish dishes.

The wine can be enjoyed now but will age well over the next three to four years in the bottle.

This is a Bordeaux-style blend that promises a pleasant everyday drinking experience. Black olive, cherry, lavender, spice and cashew nut notes feature on the nose. Medium-bodied and lithe on the palate with a juicy tannic core and long finish.

This wine is an ideal accompaniment to grilled meats, roasts and red-based pasta dishes.

The wine is ready to be enjoyed while young and fresh but will develop complexity over the next year or two.

Hermanuspietersfontein Kleinboet (Little Brother)
 

This is a five-varietal Bordeaux-style wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot & Malbec) with balanced fruit and oak.

This medium bodied wine has aromas of black current, black olive, lavender, and cashew nut. Supple with rounded tannins, it has a long dry finish and harmonious balance.

This wine is an ideal accompaniment to grilled meats and rich pasta dishes.

The wine can be enjoyed now but will age well over the next three to five years.
