Wines from South Africa

Kaapzicht

Kaapzicht Wine Estate is situated on the northerly facing slopes of the Bottelary Hills. Blessed with soils of eroded granite and a micro-climate favoring the development of vines capable of producing high quality wines.

Originally named Rosendal, the farm was purchased by the Steytler family in 1946. The initial focus of the farm was to produce fruit and bulk wine for the then Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, South Africa’s largest wine producer. Over the years vineyard plantings saw a shift towards classic red wine varietals and in 1984 the first wines were marketed under the Kaapzicht banner. Today the Steytlers’ farm some 360 acres of vineyard with a diverse range of varietals being present.

Under the guidance of Danie Steytler Snr and his brother George, the estate has become one of the Cape’s leading producers of full-bodied red wines along with a number of white wines of distinction including a Chenin Blanc from the oldest block of the varietal in the country.

In the past few years, Danie Snr has passed on the winemaking mantle to his son Danie Jnr, a giant of a man capable of producing wines that match both his stature and personality.
