Wines from USA

Kiona Wines

Very few have a rare pioneering experience. Kiona Vineyards was blessed with that experience when they discovered the un-farmed, Southern slopes of Red Mountain and planted the first vineyards there in 1975. They recognized the potential of the unique microclimate to produce wine grapes which would combine the fruitiness of the Yakima Valley with the richness of the Columbia Basin. The exceptional wine quality produced by Kiona and by others who purchased Kiona wine grapes was immediately recognized and spurred spontaneous interest in the infant Red Mountain area. Others were quick to follow!
Now, the Red Mountain American Viticulture Area is World Class, sharing this honor with Napa, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tuscany, and other artisan viticulture areas of the world. There is a strong sense of pride of the Red Mountain Heritage and having contributed to establish one of the foremost viticulture areas in the world.
Kiona Vineyards and Winery is family owned (John, Ann and Scott Williams). Scott Williams is Manager, Viticulturist, and Winemaker. John and Ann are involved in every day operations. They produced the first wines an 1980, and have a wide variety of outstanding wines. They opened the new winery facilities spring 2007, with an awesome panoramic view of our vineyards, Red Mountain and Yakima Valley.

The name Kiona is an Indian word that means “brown hills”.
